Michael Vickers is a Networking Professional, who has been working in the technolgy field Since March of 1985, he has honed his skills by on the job experience and by doing technology courses though out his years in the Industry, Michael has been remembered for his troubleshooting skills and creative solutions to issues in the area of networking and Disaster Recovery, he has also be noted for his customer focused drive and tenacity to complete a task that he starts and to deliver the required results on time and under budget.
Michael started his Kaplan University experience on August 26, 2009, he enrolled to complete a dream he has had for many years, Michael did not complete a degree before as he was wanting a degree which is targeting the technology person, who is not a programmer, but a total hardware person. Michael is enrolled in a Bachelor's Degree majoring in Network Administration. This degree fits Michael's career path and adds some additional skills to his skillset.
Once Michael completes his studies he would like to work directly in the network management, design arena of the IT industry as most of the software companies are looking towards software as a service, which means the user will access the various software packages, which currently reside on a users hard drive, from a website. While this reduces the user hardware platform requirements, it also reduces the needs for highly qualified support engineers, as the software manufacturer, can and will correct the errors as needed. But in the network arena, there will be a greater need for engineers who understand and can design, implement and manage high demand and specilized networks which are going to be needed to support these up coming services. this is the area Michael wants be part of as it will be an exciting and highly challenging career opportunity.
Although Michael started working with networks for a major banking institution in South Africa, and today finds himself still working in this exciting ever changing world. Michael is going to complete his degree to prove to prospective employers, that he is able to perform the required skills, which Michael already can do, but employers require a certificate which is proof of training and ability.
Michael has wide and varied hobbies, these being Amateur Radio, Videography, and editing of video and DVD creation, standard photography, which he combines where required with video on DVD, and then for fun added he does woodworking, Michael likes to do things with his hands that does not include technology, In Michael's youth he was in the Military, the Police and he was a Paramedic as well, these were all ways Michael helped the community he lived in.
Michael started working on websites about 7 years ago as he was in a company and had a collegue who was saying that a request from the President of the company to complete a website in 4 days, all the information was already compiled and just needed to coded, was to short a time to do, He believed that it was not and to prove the point, Michael spent the 4 days which included a weekend, and produced this website for the company, his site was not used, but Michael felt good to prove that if you put your mind to something you can do it. Michael scanned books and through testing and error correction achieved this. so websites then became a hobby to Michael too.
